The Paper Variety's Third Challenge

I actually used this LO for 2 different challenges. I used for Scrapbook Challenges- Word Prompt. The requirements was to use the word "first" in your LO, so I decided to use baby pics of my first Christmas. Since I like butterflies I added butterflies for The Paper Variety's (http://thepapervariety.blogspot.com/) Third Challenge. Here's the requirements:

I did another LO yesterday, but I'll post it in another post tomorrow. It's getting late and is raining hard here. I hope we don't have any flooding like the weathermen are predicting. Schools were let out early today and are delayed 2 hours in the morning due to flooding. I hate the rain, so I guess it's kinda an excuse for me to catch up on my scrappin! lol TFL! I hope everyone stays safe!

Recipe Challenge for The Paper Variety

This is my take for the Second Challenge with The Paper Variety. It's not like any recipe you've used before to make a cake or anything you make. This is is the recipe for the scrapbook LO:

My  ABCs are: A- Colors- Brown, Orange, Red (the paper has a red tint to it); B- Orange Borders that I punched out of Best Occasions Punch Out Pack; and C- Chicago ( http://www.miramax.com/chicago/) was a movie made in 2002 with Renee Zelleweger, Catherine Zeta Jones, & Richard Gere as the main characters. My sister, Emily, went to Chicago, IL on a missions trip. I decided to put a camera on there and use it as the journaling block. I cut the lens out and put a piece of patterned paper that had suitcases, passports, and post cards all over it. I decided to use the butterfly since it's orange and the LO is about flying. I didn't put a whole lot on this LO, because I wanted the leaves to be seen that are imprinted into the paper. That's how the paper was made. I bought a whole set of fall paper. This may be the last of the set. Emily is standing by Kevin and an airline worker about to board the plane. I remember seeing Chicago in the movie theater, it's more like a musical. I decided to make this LO after looking at The Paper Variety's blog last night. Check it out! http://thepapervariety.blogspot.com/

24 Hour Challenge LO for Scrappin-n-Chattin

I had to do this LO on an 8x8 page because that's what was chosen for me to use. The sketch above my LO is what I had to go by. I had to cut my pics up to fit all 4 on the page, but what I cut off was grass or part of the animal's cage. Tregembo Animal Park is in Wilmington, NC. (http://www.tregemboanimalpark.com/) I went with my family the summer of 2001. It was called Tote 'Em In Zoo then. You can just barely see them at the bottom under the blue ribbon, but there's a green frog to left of the journaling box and a turtle to the right of the journaling box. Monkey business fits this LO since it's pictures of zoo animals! I have lots more pics and will scrap them on 12x12 paper! It only took me an hour to do this LO. I was chatting with a friend on FB while working on this LO and looking up info about the zoo to make sure I put the right name of the zoo on the page! The journaling box tells about where the zoo is, when we went, and what my stepdad & stepsiblings are doing in the first pic- they're looking at animals in their cages. I'm gonna probably scrap the other zoo pics next week. I'm going to church tomorrow afternoon to enter the sermon for Sunday since I have the computer. Then Sunday afternoon, I'm going with my mom & stepdad to visit my grandmama at her house because her brother & sister-in-law, my Great Uncle Bill & Great Aunt Peggy, are visiting her from PA. I have a busy weekend ahead of me! Well, somewhat! It's going to be fun! I called him "Umpty Bill" when I was little! :)  Don't worry I'll post the LOs when I'm finished!

Oh, I don't know if I posted about this, but I'll mention it while it's on my mind! I won the Lollipop Crafts Challenge I did a few weeks back! I won a $25 gift certificate to Stamp and Create (http://www.stampandcreate.com/) !! I've put my order in and waiting to hear how I'm supposed to apply my gift certificate to my order. There must be something I'm missing. I'm going to order from them again once I get back on my feet! TFL at my LO and I will share my Stamp and Create goodies when I receive them! Have a good weekend! :)

New Bern's 300th Birthday Jublilee Weekend

I made this LO to remember New Bern's 300th Birthday Celebration! The map is the parade route & in the pocket is the passport/brochure everyone was given before entering Union Point Park for the Street Festival & I also saved the details of the parade line-up and put the newspaper clipping behind the passport. The journaling tells of the events my family & I attended Friday night & Saturday. Friday night, we went to Tryon Palace for the NC Symphony 300th Birthday Concert & fireworks followed. The concert was good, but we had to sit so far back on the south lawn (it was outside) because it was crowded. We couldn't hear the music that well for kids screaming behind us below the wall. Tryon Palace is on an incline overlooking the river and they have a wall all the way around the back of the property. Saturday morning, we went to the Heritage Parade that was supposed to be from 10-12, but only lasted until 11:30. We sat at the end of the parade route and didn't see all the parade. A lot of them- NC Governor Beverly Perdue and the Mayor got out of the parade a block before the parade got to where we were. There was 4 or 5 high school bands in the parade. I enjoyed it! Afterwards we ate lunch at the Bojangle's booth in the park and walked around a little bit. New Bern's mascot is the bear so that's why there's little bears all over the LO and the colors are red & black. New Bern is a sister city to Bern, Switzerland. A group of Swiss people were at the concert Friday night and attended the festivities all weekend. It was a good experience to remember! :)

Cardabilities Card & 2 Other LOs

Sketch
Front
Inside
Childhood Memory
Sisters

The inside of the card has "The Magic of Christmas" on the polka dotted square that almost looks like gumballs. I made this card for Cardabilities (http://cardabilities.blogspot.com/). Check out their blog for more sketches!

The Childhood Memory LO I made for Scrappin-n-Chattin as a Keepsake LO. It's a newspaper cut-out of me at Washington Co Library for art class in 1980. I don't remember this event, but my mom had the newspaper clipping and gave it to me. The purple tag tells more about the pic. Brooke, a girl my grandmother used to babysit when she was little and a friend of mine, is to my right in the pic. We still keep in touch through Facebook. I had to use a purple page since it's about me and it's my favorite color!

The 2nd LO is of me & Emily on our bikes that I mentioned in the Palmetto Co Islands Park LO. The journaling tells about where we were living- Men Riv Housing (my dad was in the Navy stationed at the Shipyard) in Charleston, SC Christmas 1982. TFL!

The Paper Variety's First Sketch Challenge

The Paper Variety (http://thepapervariety.blogspot.com/) is a fairly new blog designed by Abby & Suzanne, friends from Scrappin-n-Chattin (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/scrappin-n-chattin/). This is the sketch we were given to follow:
&  this is my take:
The journaling block has "just chillin'" typed in the top left corner and I wrote "Tyler was enjoyin' his macaroni-n-cheese!" The mushroom paper "Happy Place" was in Scrapbooks Etc Aug/Sept 2008 as an advertisement for Sassafras (http://www.sassafrasslass.com/). I'm not even sure they make the paper anymore, I searched on the site and it might not even be called Happy Place. I saw it and thought I'd use it on a LO! The green polka dotted scallop edge under the picture was on the Sassafras paper and I decide to cut it off to go under the pic! The leaves were from a punch. I used the little green polka dotted squares at the bottom to make the leaves and decided to use the scraps on my LO, too! The title is "Priceless" because this picture is priceless! The Sassafras paper was my inspiration, along with the sketch, to make the LO look as good as it is! I have so many different issues of Scrapbooks Etc and Memory Makers magazines that I don't use them enough for inspiration! There's a lot of sketches in them, too! I'd rather look online for inspiration! Oh, well! Please join in on the fun and try the challenge yourself! TFL!

All About Family Challenge #7 with Lollipop Crafts

I made this LO for the "All About Family" Challenge with Lollipop Crafts (http://lollipopcrafts.blogspot.com/). The journaling box is the little box over Happy Holidays.  It says, "This was their Christmas card one year. Their parents are Ben Mark & Diane. (I drew an arrow to Ben Mark's name & put "my mom's brother" under it) Yes, they're my cousins." The little red metal sign over the polka dotted stocking has the word "cherish" on it. I don't remember what year this picture was taken. Cameron is a senior in high school now and Caroline is a freshman. I have no idea what the dog's name was or if they have that dog anymore. I saw the Challenge mentioned on Kristie's blog and remembered this pic! TFL!

My Cake

Here's the cake I made for the Bible Study tonight. Only about a third of it is left! Everyone told me it was good! I ate a piece and thought it was good! I wanted another piece but decided not to eat anymore. I'll get another piece before it's gone! There was also peanuts, chocolate chip cookies, shortbread cookies, & ham salad sandwiches. We usually have a few more things to eat, too, but didn't this time.
I can't believe it's been 9 years since 9-11-01. I'm going to put an American flag somewhere around the mailbox tomorrow morning to show that I have not forgotten what happened that day! I will never forget! I  heard on the news today that at 8:46 am they are going to have a minute of silence for those that died that day. I may have to set an alarm to remind me to pray at that time! I should be up, my grandmama is coming in the morning and I have to vacuum before she gets here, so I need to get to bed soon. Have a Happy Grandparents Day Sunday all Grandparents that may be reading this!!

PaperCutz Tag Challenge

Front
Inside

I made this for PaperCutz Tag Challenge. Check it out at: http://papercutzchallenge.blogspot.com/! I wanted to make a Christmas card that centers around Jesus' birth and this star on the front. I continue with the star theme on the inside of the card and chose this blue swirly paper since it's usually cold at Christmastime. The Scripture on the inside is Isaiah 9:6: "For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. He will be called WONDERFUL, COUNSELOR, MIGHTY GOD, Everlasting Father, PRINCE of PEACE." I plan on using this card closer to Christmas and will write on it then! TFL!

Apple LO

Ok, first of all let me tell you about the title! I made this LO for Scrappin-n-Chattin and we had to include the word "apple" in the title. Panthers is Northside's mascot and this was Erin's senior pic, thus Panthers Apple Grad! I had to use a little play on words! I keep beating myself up because it doesn't make sense, but scrapbooking is supposed to be fun and have catchy titles! I wrote on the chalkboard, but you may/may not be able to read it. I wrote "Senior pic 2002-2003 Northside High School Beaufort Co NC". I decided to use the ribbon borders to bring out the color of Erin's hair, but the pic is so dark that you can't see her hair! It might be my monitor. My computer is old and pictures show up darker on here than most computers. The big apple is chipboard. I wanted to use this apple for this LO! It's from the Maya Road School key chain. I still have the crayon, abc, and school bus chipboard pieces left to use!
I also burnt my right ring finger on a pop tart right after I took it out off the toaster! LOL I have a little blister on the fingertip and it was hurting right after it happened, but now it's not as bad. I keep forgetting not to use it when I type, but it's hard to type without using it! There was some icing or something oozing out of the Pop Tart and I thought, that looks good, but boy did I feel the heat when I touched it! It was a Cookies N Cream Pop Tart. I eat them as snacks instead of for breakfast. I won't touch the gooey parts anymore! LOL My parents were watching the football game and popped popcorn. I wanted a Pop Tart instead of popcorn while I scrapped!
I've got to make a cake tomorrow and clean so I probably won't get any scrappin done. My grandmama is coming Saturday morning and will be here until Sunday afternoon. The cake is for our small group meeting tomorrow night! It's gonna be a Duncan Hines Butter Recipe Golden (even that doesn't sound right) w/ Duncan Hines Homestyle Creamy Lemon Supreme icing and I can't decide if I want to make a round layer cake or a bundt cake. I usually make cookies, so this is the first cake I have made! I'll take a picture after I make it and post it on here! I'm getting tired and rambling so I better stop! Have a good night!

Two Scrapbook LOs and Interview News :)

Keepsake LO
Ad Inspiration
My Take on Ad

The first LO was used as a Keepsake LO for Scrappin-n-Chattin and the second LO is for Scrapbook Challenges September Inspiration Challenge. The first LO is of Palmetto Islands County Park in Mt Pleasant, SC. We were to use a newspaper clipping or any memorabilia we could find for the Keepsake LO. When I was little, my mom & dad took Emily & I to this park to teach us how to ride our bikes. We also rode the pedal boats they had to rent there at the park as well. I remember my dad telling us we couldn't leave until we learned how to ride our bikes. Emily & I were crying cuz we were so tired, but we learned how to ride the bikes! The summer afterwards we rode our bikes all over the trailer park we lived in! The second LO is my inspiration from the magazine ad above it. I love reading books and decided to make a LO declaring it! All the blocks of paper around the edges are pictures of covers of books I have read or am reading. The picture in the middle of the heart (you can barely see the purple heart) is of me in 2008 when I had short hair. I decided to add the ribbon to the bottom of the LO and it wouldn't stick so I added the smiley face brad, Inspired brad, and a flower sticker to give a little more color to the page! Our printer is out of colored ink so that's why the quality of the book covers is poor, but looking at the LO in person you can read them. You couldn't see the title on 2 of the books, so I wrote one in and will have to write the other one in later.

Now about my interview. I know you're all wondering!! I had an interview at Harris Teeter (a grocery store) for a cashier position yesterday. I had to fill out a background check sheet and was told I may be called for a second interview and then would have to take a drug test before being hired. Emily also works at Harris Teeter, so we might not be able to work in the same department. She told me the deli needs help and she needs some overnight stockers. I told her I can do overnight. I closed at Burger King and sleep most of the morning anyway. So please pray I get called for a second interview and get the job! TFL at my LOs!

September Sketch Challenge for Scrappin-n-Chattin

Sketch
My LO

I did this LO using the sketch above yesterday (Labor Day) afternoon for the Septemember Sketch Challenge at Scrappin-n-Chattin (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/scrappin-n-chattin/). The title is Mama's Flowerbed. I've been saving these pictures to scrap and decided to use this sketch to scrap them with! They are of my mom's flowers or what her flowerbed looked liked at one time. The flowers are geraniums, red and yellow roses, Dusty Millers (the tall ones), & Sweet William (pink spotted ones near the ground at the front). As you can tell, I know nothing about flowers, luckily my mom was home and I was able to ask her what kind of flowers they were! The pink flower under the word "Hope" was part of the paper under the pictures. I didn't want to cut it in half, so I cut the flower out and decided to use it as an embellishment. I covered the spot where the flower was with the bottom left picture. All the brads, adhesive, orange polka dotted flower w/ a brad, butterfly, sunflower, lizards, journal block, and the glittery look on the title (gel roll pen) was in my bottle from Debi. I'm thinking about using some more of those goodies in a few!! I'm running out of my other stuff so these goodies came at a great time!! I was the first one to complete this challenge. The drawing will be September 30. Please pray I win! If I don't, I still had fun making the LO! TFL!

Seasons of Change Blog Hop on Scrapbook Challenges

Scrapbook Challenges is having a Season of Change Blog Hop. (http://scrapbookchallenges.ning.com/)
To start click on Pamela's blog: http://www.pamelasworldofscrap.blogspot.com/ and then
(http://scrapbookchallenges.ning.com/forum/topics/seasons-of-change-hop-on) to hop on if you'd like to join in on the fun!

Here's the sketch:

My Take:

This LO is titled Daddy Thru The Years cuz the top pic is of my dad reading behind his apartment in Atlanta, GA in 1975 when he & my mom were students at Atlanta Christian College. The bottom picture is of Tammy, Daddy, Shirley Colpitts, & Lura Kelly, either Shirley or Lura hosted a baby shower for Tyler at their house in the summer of 2007. The velllum says, "Friends, they are kind at each other's hopes, they cherish each other's desires.- Thoreau." I'm also using this LO for Scrappin-in-Chattin's Leaves LO that's why the leaves are on the left hand side.

Here's a birthday card I also made today:
Front Cover
I made this birthday card for a friend who's working in Africa and won't be home for her birthday. The vellum quote says: "Wherever you are, it is your friends who make your world. William James." The background paper itself has several verses written in the paper. One of them is "This is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it." Psalm 118:24 TFL and enjoy the blog hop if you decide to join! Have a good Labor Day weekend!

A Day At the Beach

I made this card for a swap yesterday and am just getting around to blogging about it. I'm entering this card in  The Sisterhood of Craf...
